THE 11th ANNUAL ALL BREEDS COMPANION DOG SHOW and WELSH BERNESE GET-TOGETHER in aid of Bernese Welfare UK was held on Saturday 6th June 2009 at LLys Derwen, Fford Bryngwyn, Llanrug, near Caernarfon, Gwynedd LL55 4R
Unfortunately, the rain decided to make an appearance on the day of the show. Although disappointing, it is only the 2nd time it has been wet in the 11 year history of this event but it didn't inhibit the attendance figures or the enjoyment had by all! Judge Gerry Jones (Beaucroft) had 224 entries in the Companion Show but despite the showers there was no lack of enthusiasm or humour from the organisers, helpers and exhibitors. The dogs (mostly!) seemed oblivious to the damp conditions. The marvellous sum of £2285 was raised, with a few pledges of donations still to come. THANK YOU SO MUCH! This money is desperately needed to help unfortunate Bernese.
A bit of rain didn't deter these enthusiastic exhibitors
Exhibitors enjoyed a laugh and a joke as they sheltered under the awnings
This exhibitor was very well prepared for any weather
Lovely trophies and beautiful rosettes to be won
A wide variety of breeds took part .....
..... and exhibitors of all ages too
Judge Gerry Jones was totally focussed on the task of judging
Jan and Peter Ratcliffe were kept busy taking the entries
Plenty of things for folk to buy - and they did!
Jean Vaughan-Jones and Staff Miles were ready and waiting at their station!
Sue Miles all ready with the raffle tickets
Jane and Dilys ready to keep folk well-fed
Andy Vogan ready with the Hot Dogs - and they all sold out too!
This dog was nice and dry in her coat - and VERY interested in the refreshments tables!
Paul and Emily with the laziest, floppiest (and driest!) Bernese at the show!
The Bernese and carts, as always, looked splendid
"Come on Mum, stop talking to the photographer - we'll miss our class!"
Saul with his unusual (but very appropriate) 'hat'!
One young Bernese dreams of growing up to pull a cart
Judge Gerry Jones with his Best in Show winner the GSD
The Newfoundland won Reserve Best in Show
The Labrador was awarded Best Puppy in Show
Best Veteran in Show was awarded to the Bouvier (who was more interested in the bag of food than the cup and rosette!)
Best Child Handler with her Papillon
Winner of the Best Rescued Dog class was the Golden retriever
Teddy, who was recently taken in and rehomed by Bernese Welfare won the Carting Class. This was no mean feat as prior to being rehomed he had never even seen a cart, let alone pull one yet his obvious pleasure in his new-found activity is clear to see.
No wonder the merry band consisting of some of the organisers and helpers pictured above look pleased. The success of the day is a fantastic achievement for all involved and all who supported the event and the generosity of those who want to give or do something to help unfortunate Bernese whilst not wanting any glory or financial reward or gratuity for themselves is truly humbling. Thank you.
This little one has a good memory; last year she discovered that the helpers stayed behind for a well-earned meal and some drinks after the event - and so she had her eyes on the booze again!
Bryn says "the date for the next show will likely be late May or early June 2010 - WE'D LOVE TO SEE YOU HERE NEXT YEAR!"
