Finding a reputable Bernese Mountain Dog Breeder in the UK
Prospective owners keen to add a Bernese to their family often encounter some difficulty in finding a reputable breeder in the UK. It can be difficult for those wishing to purchase a Bernese puppy to know where to start looking! Reputable breeders are usually 'hobby' breeders first and foremost, most likely only breeding a litter when they hope to keep a puppy for themselves and will often have a few bookings on their waiting list for puppies before any litter is born; any puppies not previously booked are sold via word-of-mouth recommendations passed along through the UK Bernese community `grapevine.` The majority of reputable UK Bernese breeders rarely, if ever, openly advertise that they are expecting a litter or have puppies available. There is a possibility that contacting an advertiser who is offering Bernese available for sale in a newspaper or on the internet may lead you to a reputable breeder offering good quality dogs BUT remember that puppy farmers and commercial breeders/dealers and those breeders with a poor reputation don't achieve recommendation from the Bernese community and therefore don't get sales enquiries passed on to them - they have to be ever-inventive and advertise to promote themselves and their litters to achieve their sales targets. Buying your Bernese from a known, established, caring Bernese breeder who has been recommended as having a good reputation is a much safer way of finding the ideal Bernese puppy to join your family.
